There are few landslides have been reported in Bandarawela area. Dikaraawe, Kinigama, Liyangahawella area were subjected to few landslides. according to our sources, due to those events there were 40 houses have been damaged and 3 dead also reported.
Unsafe situation has been identified in Bandarawela area and government officials informed locals to evacuate immediately from the danger zone. Locals are saying that they have no safe place or any other place to go to and also, officials have not provided any safe place to go to , hence while they know the imminent danger hanging on their heads, have no any other options but to stay in own homes.
Peoples are saying that,in Monsoon period it is natural have heavy rain and they have experience such heavy rain in their life before but, had never experienced this kind of so many landslides ever. people and academics are strongly believing Uma Oya multi disasters project is the culprit for this calamity.The Academics and the experts are convinced that the damages done by the Uma OYa project’s tunnel boring process to the soil layers in the area is the reason to this calamities. they are predicting there will be more and more often landslide will be occurred which would be huge unless, stop this disastrous project and addressed and implement restorative process to the damage it has been made.
